Novel: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
“Happily ever after, or even just together ever after, is not cheesy,”
Wren said. “It’s the noblest, like, the most courageous
thing two people can shoot for.”

So you might have heard of Rainbow, from when she wrote that book called Eleanor and Park, which has been super popular. Rainbow Rowell has been known for focusing on the minority groups and this time, in Fangirl, she talks about internet people.
In particular, she writes about a girl who writes fan-fiction and is who is internet famous. This will especially be interesting for me because I have a book blog and I really like to see it when people try to examine this kind of culture.
So the main character's name is Cath who is starting her freshmen year in college with her twin, Wren. She expects to be in the same unit with her sister, but it turns out that that's not what Wren wants. Her roommate is kind of different and it's pretty hard for her to adjust because she's just socially awkward.
What I liked about Rainbow Rowell was that she did not "abuse" the fact that Cath was socially awkward and instead, she actualizes this social awkwardness and she writes it in this way that will make people realize how hard it is to be this kind of person.
And in this book, you actually get to read excerpts from Cath's Fanfiction and the idea is super cute and you can tell that the whole Simon Snow was inspired by Harry Potter.

One thing that I noticed was that there are some parts that Nick was neglected and sometimes, when he was actually written about, Rainbow Rowell forgot about Levi.
A important thing about Fangirl is that it doesn't tell you to change. Cath is introverted and may be a little different but she is funny and her perspective is interesting. She didn't need to give up a part of herself to survive college and live a good life. You don't either.

The choices you make now will affect you for the rest of your life.
I hate to see you swim out so far you can't swim back.”

This book is actually a birthday present from a friend and I never actually read it until I really had nothing to do. I guess this time I have to thank boredom.
Juli Baker has just proved "Love at first sight" true. She had heard that someone her age was moving to her neighborhood and how excited she was. Who she thought would be her playmate became her first love.
The first time she saw him, her heart stopped. She would follow Bryce everywhere and Bryce would do anything to get rid of her. This continued until eight grade when the situation became reversed. Juli decided to look behind the handsome shell and saw an arrogant jerk and Bryce saw how special Juli is.
Wendelin Van Draanen did an amazing plot twist in the book. She wrote it in two different voices that made me have a wider scope of the events and it made me understand what was going on better. There are no open endings and Wendelin Van Draanen wrote it in a way that lovesick teenagers these days will be able to relate to.
What I really loved about Flipped was that the characters were realistic and easy to relate to. It showed me the real definition of true love. Flipped is a very honest book and I have never read anything like it before. Plus the two perspectives made it very unique and creative.
Honestly, if you ask me, I would re-read it and never get tired of it. If I don't have a new book, I would grab this one and sit in a hunched position and I won't stop until it's dinner. Shoot, even the movie is amazing. When I read this book, I seriously fell in love and flipped.

Sluggish Sundays : On Money
Sluggish Sundays is a not-really-weekly feature at Thoughts of a Teenage Fangirl, wherein I write about my thoughts, feelings and opinions about certain topics based on events that happened during the week.
I don't know how to start this post. I have been staring at the screen of my phone for minutes. I know how retarded it is, updating this blog with a phone that blogger does not want me to use the compose button so I'm using html to write this.
So I went to my uncle's house today because...I don't really know why. Basically, we ate awkward lunch, watched an awkward film, and watched my mom cry awkwardly after the movie. I just had to escape the awkward atmosphere so me and my sisters suggested that we go to the gym. We successfully convinced our dad to accompany us after we debated that laying on the couch was not horizontal standing.
When we got to the gym, we discovered that the treadmills weren't working, so we tried out the bike thingies. Me and my sisters had this contest that the first one who reached a kilometer would win. Our dad decided to just admire the equipment. I actually got third place. Ahihi...out of three people. Well, that isn't so bad, right?
Right?
Well, we were doing a rematch until my dad told us to go out of the gym fast. We asked him why afterwards, and he told us about the entrance fee which was $15. We went out without objecting.
Funny how money seems to run the world these days.
On the bright side, I finished reading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, so expect an update soon. That is, if someone's reading this blog. Let me know?

Novel: The Last Time I Saw Mother by Arlene J. Chai
“The past defines us as much as the present.
By never knowing my past, I was never sure of who I was.
Because mine was missing, I never felt whole.”

The Last Time I Saw Mother itself is a sweet and poetic tale, hoping to deliver a message to this bitter world that there is no such thing as a perfect life. It may just seem so otherwise as we see people separate from their past. We see them as who they are today, ignoring who they were. Ignoring what they've been through.
Thelma calls for Caridad as she is ready to free her solitary soul by releasing the wild truth that she caged along with all the other miserable memories.
Our past is as an individual is interesting. You may call it yours but it isn't. It's a puzzle - a medley of experiences - and when you look closely at a piece, you realize that you share that bit with someone else. That the piece isn't yours alone. That your past was held together by millions of pieces. Pieces that didn't belong to you in the first place.
After all, do we not belong in each other's stories?
It's amazing that when combined, the past of three different women defines who Caridad is. As she listens to the tales of these women and slowly, she begins to know who she really is. What is reflected in the tales of different women and learns that maybe there is light in times of darkness.
And perhaps, there's always hope, just waiting to be found.
